| In the spirit of Alma Enterprises,
the exhibition brings together the work of eight artists and collaborators
whose work is part of an ongoing process. Each have been invited
to present an element of their work that represents a development
of their practice at this particular moment in time.
Beltran Obregon will be projecting aerial video
works. Playing on the veracity of the aerial photograph and the
deception of scale, these sequences offer an unsettling and at some
points misleading viewpoint. Our eye puts together the outline of
a recognisable city whilst the camera closes in to reveal the details
of it's construction.
Charlie Tweed will present the latest incarnation
of his alter ego, Sirus Manzil in The 'Man From Below' TV. A video
recording documenting Manzil's move to a bunker beneath the Thames
Gateway charts his absurd 'progress'. Inspired by a reading of Dickens
'Great Expectations', he advocates a new form of underground living
in a quest to re-purpose the surface.

Gayle Chong Kwan will be mapping people and aspects
of Vyner street and the surrounding area. A map will evolve from
the process of investigation. Part of a continuing project in which
a previous work joins to the next, Gayle's practice results from
working with notional, temporary, conflicting or imaginary 'communities.'
P1orn have donated a series of paintings in a nod
towards their next residency at Alma. A simple process of artist
+ artist = art is the forefront to this piece of work.
Matt Bua and Jesse Bercowetz
Renowned in New York for their absurd large-scale sculptural assemblages
created from all manner of urban junk, Matt and Jesse are working
collaboratively on a large-scale drawing. Likely to be peppered
with an accumulation of absurd social and cultural references, some
bad-ass attitude, Bowie knives and emasculating boys own jokes,
this will be the first showing of their collaborative drawings in
the UK.
Nicky Magliulo will present an installation of
drawings and writings rooted in a contemporary gothic imagination.
Using the graphics and language of comic-books as a source, Magliulo
creates a piercingly humorous, uncomfortable and dark critique around
a character called Lola.
New York sound artist and director of the Brooklyn Adult Recorder
Choir, Chris Peck has composed a score that will
be sung by the Alma Enterprises Adult Community Choir on the night
of the opening (directed by Ingrid Plum)
