'Lysistrata' a film by Ludo
Mich
Thursday 6th March 2008, 6 - 9 pm
This May Belgian fluxus artist Ludo Mich will be coming to London to do a special performance as part of our exhibition 'The Bad Year Blimp'. In preparation for this we are presenting his 1976 film ' Lysistrata'.
‘Lysistrata’ is
a free adaptation of the 411 BC Greek satire by Aristophanes. In
this classical story, the Greek women, under the direction of Lysistrata,
decide to confiscate and close down the Acropolis. They decide on
a sexual strike to instigate an end to the war.
Filmed in the
basement of the International Cultural Centre, Antwerp. The film
originated from a concept: a set of blown up painted 35mm pellicule,
around which the actors played. This painted set changed continually
and made people move in and behind it.
1976, 52mins,
repeated throughout the evening.
