LAND managed the production of 'Vauxhall Pleasure' for artists
Anna Best and Paul Whitty. 35 singers were commissioned to perform
to the traffic and passers-by from the roadside at Vauxhall Cross,
London. The music, composed and performed according to the traffic
light phases, was a re-arrangement of the songs of Thomas Arne,
who was composer in residence at the Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens in
the 18th century.
Later in the evening there was a performance at the Tate Britain
using recordings of the singers plus the interference of traffic
noise accompanied by a live chamber ensemble performing Thomas Arne's
cantata 'The Morning' (1755)
